Our Parents and Founders

Joseph Edward Kubes, Sr.

1923-2005

Rita Marie Kubes

1927-2016

Hailing from Northfield, Minnesota, Joe Kubes served as a Marine during World War II repairing the cockpit instruments of aircraft. In 1945, he was honorably discharged as a 22 year old Technical Sergeant at Eagle Mountain Marine Base in Fort Worth, Texas.

Joe and his new bride Rita loved the Sunbelt climate and decided to settle there and build a business. Utilizing his experience in instrument repair, they opened a watch repair service in downtown Fort Worth. After several years of success and location moves, they landed at 2700 Berry Street in 1963 – the location of Kubes Jewelers to this day.

Rita was also from Minnesota, a native of St. Paul. She came from a business background and was instrumental in encouraging and helping Joe start his watch repair service. Utilizing her talent for art, Rita was responsible for promoting the business, creating displays, managing sales and inventory. While their business expanded, so did their family. The couple welcomed eight children, followed by 21 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.

Because of the impressive size of their family, Joe and Rita were able achieve an impressive feat – to operate a retail store staffed exclusively with family members. This provided exceptional quality control and continuity, allowing the family to seamlessly pass the baton from one generation to the next while maintaining a consistent level of expertise, service, and integrity.

Joe and Rita will forever live in the hearts and memories of the Kubes Family.
