Joseph Edward Kubes, Sr. & Rita M. Kubes
1923 - 2005 1927 - 2016
Our Incredible Parents and Founders -
Originally from Northfield, Minn., Joseph was honorably discharged after WWII from the U.S. Marines in 1945 as a 22-year-old Technical Sergeant at Eagle Mountain Marine Base, Texas. He and his new bride, Rita, loved the Sunbelt climate and growth potential and decided to establish a watch repair service in downtown Fort Worth. In a brief period of time, they made several moves; across from TWC in Poly, across from TCU on University Dr. and then in 1948 around the corner to 2715 Berry where they stayed for 15 years. In 1963 they moved across the street to 2700 W. Berry where they reside to this day. We have been on the same block for over 70 years. Besides being an accomplished watch repairman and jeweler, Joseph became one of the first nine Certified Gemologists in Texas in 1955, and the only one in Fort Worth.
Originally from St. Paul, Minn., Rita came from a business background and encouraged her new husband, Joseph, to go into business for themselves. Being the artist of the two, she was responsible for the promotions, displays, designing, sales, and inventory. Along with expanding the business, their family also increased to include eight children, 21 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. Because of the number of offspring, Joe and Rita were able to implement a very rare feat – to have a store that was staffed and operated exclusively by the family members for quality control and continuity purposes. This "passing of the baton" from one generation to the next is what allows Kubes Jewelers to maintain an exceptionally high level of integrity, expertise, dependability, consistency, and progressive sophistication.
They both will be fondly remembered and dearly missed!
